The innovative temporary replacement for the 19th century Christchurch Cathedral is on schedule for completion in April, two years on from the devastating earthquake that claimed 185 lives in Christchurch.

The “Cathedral Regulars”, a non-profit independent community group has worked tirelessly to keep the project on track for the April opening, offering their time painting
cardboard tubes to feature in the transitional cathedral.

Volunteer Manager Nicky Lee said “the project was about putting a mark on a building that will eventually become a home again for the Cathedral community.”

It is hoped the new cathedral will draw much-needed tourism back to the once thriving city.
