Cooler temperatures ease fire conditions in NSW

A drop in temperatures has allowed firefighters to put out 15 of the 127 fires burning across the state, however 20 remain uncontrolled.

The cooler conditions allowed the Rural Fire Service to lower the extreme fire danger rating and the total fire ban today, yet warns residents of affected areas to remain on alert.

Blistering temperatures yesterday reached 46.5 C in Penrith and 45.8C in Sydney, breaking the previous record of 45.3 C in 1939.

Easing winds and lower temperatures will continue into next week, bringing relief to 1000 firefighters battling blazes in NSW.
